Remembrance 2020: George Richardson VC

As we approach Armistice Day on the 11th of November, we remember some of those who gave their lives and others who survived in service to their country. Their gallantry should be honoured.

George Richardson VC

Born in Derrylane, Killeshandra, County Cavan in 1831, George joined the British Army. He was a private in the 34th Regiment of Foot during the Indian Mutiny.

On 27 April 1859 he demonstrated remarkable courage under fire and while wounded. As a result, he was awarded a Victoria Cross.

After his service in India he emigrated to Canada, serving with the Canadian Militia, achieving the rank of Sergeant before he retired.
