Updated: Jan 27, 2020

More than 30 representatives from a range of professions took part in a careers information evening at Brownlow House, Lurgan, on Wednesday, October 23.

Approximately 200 students and their parents attended the event, which was promoted and supported by the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland in partnership with the respective Orange Societies at Queen’s and Ulster University.

The evening provided an opportunity for students (Years 10 to 14) to speak directly to people who are actively engaged in specific careers on a daily basis.

Information was also available on third level education and Orange bursaries.

Representatives of the Student Orange Societies were in attendance and the event was also supported by the Drew Nelson Legacy Project.

Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland Youth Development Officer, Gary McAllister said the event had been a success and offered those who attended a useful insight into real jobs from those who were actively involved.

“We were delighted to attract such a strong number of representatives from careers and for a great turnout of young people who came along on the night,” said Bro McAllister.

“For students who are approaching some very important decisions in their education to have the chance to get advice and guidance from people actively engaged in specific jobs is a great boost.”

He added: “I would like to thank all those who worked so hard to ensure this event was a great success and to those who came along and supported us on the evening.”
