This booklet is published by the Education Committee of the
Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland to mark the Tercentenary of
the Battle of Aughrim, in the hope that it will increase our
awareness of the importance of, the least known of the four
great Williamite victories of Derry, Aughrim, Enniskillen and
the Boyne.
On 12th July 1857, that great Christian soldier, Sir Henry
Havelock, was marching on Cawnpore, during the Indian
Mutiny, when one of his Officers reminded him that it was the
anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne. Havelock corrected him
"It was not", he said; "It was the anniversary of Aughrim."
